Demus Exploration & Production is a 100% Liberian-owned, independent E&P focused on exploring high quality oil & gas projects in the Equatorial Atlantic Margin and other promising basins on the African continent.

Demus E&P is founded and run by a highly experienced team with experience in exploration and operational experience on the Liberia-Sierra Leone Margin, Niger Delta, UK Sector of the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Permian Basin, DJ Basin, Piceance Creek, among others.

Our team members have worked for with many international oil companies and oil service firms including ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, Shell, Anadarko, African Petroleum, Diamondback, Premier Oil, Occidental, ConocoPhilips, Pioneer, Endeavor, among others.   Headquartered in Monrovia, Liberia with liaison offices in Houston, Texas, Demus E&P is the premier Liberian exploration & production company setup primarily to take advantage of the 5% allotment to local companies in the Amended Petroleum Law of 2019 to local Liberian.

Its primary founder has worked as a engineer and geologist in several high profile basins around the world and is formerly Exploration Director of the National Oil Company of Liberia, a role that gave him technical oversight of around 30% of the West Africa Transform Margin. Michael started his career as a D&M engineer for Schlumberger gaining expertise in drilling, petrophysics, and operations geology. The Demus E&P team is highly experienced in above and below ground issues related to the Liberia-Sierra Leone margin and is growing its expertise in the geology, legal and financial frameworks related to transactions of this frontier region. In 2024, Demus successfully secured a financial partnership with a commitment to fund its share of the working interest in Blocks secured in Liberia.

Michael B. Johnson

Managing Partner – Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Southern University (USA) and Master of Science in Petroleum Geoscience from Imperial College London. Mr. Johnson began his career as a Well Logging Engineer for Schlumberger performing Logging-while-drilling services in the Gulf of Mexico, West Texas, Colorado, Louisiana and United Kingdom. Mr. Johnson has expertise in petroleum geoscience, petrophysics and drilling operations with experience in multiple operating environments spanning land, nearshore, shelf and offshore regimes. He was an engineer on multi-million-dollar jobs for multiple companies including ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, Devon, Marathon, Anadarko, among others. He served as a government representative on the first deep-water wells offshore Liberia overseeing wellsite geology and drilling operations before rising to the position of Exploration Manager. As Exploration Manager and later Exploration Director, he had technical oversight of 25% of the West African Transform Margin. He successfully led a diverse team of data management, G&G, Engineering, Data Management and HSE professionals. He was pivotal in championing business development initiatives, one which culminated into a multi-million dollar well data management contract.  As co-chairman of the Corporate Strategy Committee, he was solely responsible for the writing of the ten (10) year strategy and strategic plan for the NOCAL. Mr. Johnson was also an experienced wellsite geologist with several year working on unconventional petroleum projects in the Permian, Anadarko, and DJ Basins. Mr. Johnson is well versed in the Petroleum Policy and Petroleum Law having served as project manager and consultation facilitator for both initiatives. He has an in-depth knowledge of the geology of the Liberia and Harper basin geology and its resource potential. Mr. Johnson led the World Bank HFO Petroleum Storage and Transportation Project for the Liberia Electricity Corporation, one of the largest undertaking of the National Utility. A serial entrepreneur, Mr. Johnson has founded several companies including the first oil service company in Liberia, a medical supply company and a Electricity trading platform.  He is an author of a high school Math Exam prep book, a philanthropist, a jazz & gospel piano hack, polyglot, and itinerant speaker. He credits his deep Christian faith for his drive and his love for people. At DEEP, Mr. Johnson handles G&G management, strategy, government, and investor relations.

Carmenia E. Abdallah

Carmenia E. Abdallah has over 20 years of Corporate Management experience.  A prominent Liberian businesswoman and entrepreneur, Mrs. Abdallah serves as Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Villancy Realty, Inc., a premier real estate firm in Liberia.  At Villancy, Mrs. Abdallah drives strategy and operational oversight and management of the firm.  She has served as the Executive Vice President of the Mesurado Corporation Consolidated and Mesurado Group of Companies, West Africa’s premier manufacturing corporation of the 1960s and 1970s.  She has served as a Director of the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) and the First International Bank (FIB), Monrovia, Liberia.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Davenport University, Dearborn, Michigan, USA.   At DEEP, Mrs. Abdallah is a Partner and serves as Executive Director.

Cllr. Ruth Jappah – Samukai

Legal Advisor – A graduate of Howard University (USA) and University of Liberia in Law, Cllr. Jappah is a champion for Women’s Land rights in Liberia. She is an expert in telecommunication law & regulations, anti-corruption laws, and Code of Conduct for government officials and employees. She was also a member of the technical team of the Constitution Review Committee responsible for formulating amendments related to gender and children issues. She is currently the Managing Partner of International Law Group, responsible for the day-to-day operations and represents clients in civil and criminal litigation. She has co-authored several publications on violence against women in major journals including the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA). Cllr. Jappah holds several professional certificates including Executive Education Certificate in Leadership-in-Development from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Cllr. Jappah is the Chief Legal Advisor at DEEP on issues related to Corporate transactions, government regulation and legal risks.

Margaret D. Caine

Advisor, Accounting & Taxation – Mrs. Margaret D. Caine holds a BBA Degree in Accounting from the University of Liberia, a Certificate in Macro-Finance from the Cuttington Graduate Programs and is an ACCA level III.  Her wealth of experience includes six (6) years of work in the Banking Industry (National Housing & Savings Bank of Liberia), serving in the capacities of Teller, Senior Vault Officer and Assistant Manager of Accounts. She spent two (2) years at Mobil Oil Liberia, rising from Accountant to General Accountant. Mrs. Caine currently serves as the Accounting Manager of Firestone Liberia and has worked there for the past 22 years. Her experience as a Senior Finance Personnel at Liberia’s largest private sector player and employer gives her profound insight into the commercial, accounting and tax codes of Liberia. At DEEP she advises on Corporate Accounting and Taxation.

Rev. Jackson Tugbeh

Advisor, Corporate Social Responsibility, Moral & Ethical AffairsRev. Jackson Tugbeh holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from the All Nations For Christ Bible Institute, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He served as a Liberian Christian missionary to Nigeria for 33 years. In 1987 he founded the Tugbeh World Outreach Ministries, an organization that was pivotal in catering to the souls and wellbeing of thousands of Liberian refugees around the World. Reverend Tugbeh, lived with, and worked Archbishop Benson A. Idahosa (now of blessed memory), the Father of the modern African Christian revival movement. He served as his armor-bearer, Psalmist, at the same time, leading his crusade choir. He also worked with the Metropolitan Senior Pastor of the House On The Rock Churches, Reverend Paul A. Adefarasin; and served as an Associate Pastor, Deputy Missions Director, Pastor In-charge of the music department. He was one of the music seminar coordinators for ‘The Experience Lagos,’ – an annual Interdenominational ‘all night’ Gospel concert dubbed the largest gospel music concert in the World – a concert that features some of the best-known musical talents of our time, with over half a million in attendance in one setting, and millions of viewers through the social media platforms. He is the founder and presiding prelate of Graceville Bible Church; and CEO of PUSH360tv, an online Church, reaching people all over the Globe with the love and light of God. His passion is his charitable organization, Tomorrow’s People, an NGO that assist underprivileged children from slum communities, especially those with parents with substance abuse issues. He regularly mentors troubled youth and adults on drugs as well as work with their families to help restore order and sanity in the environment. At DEEP, Rev. Tugbeh serves as an advisor for Corporate Social Responsibility and moral & ethical issues.
